fard
An obligatory part, as this book lists them.
A fard here is an obligatory part of an act. The wudu chapter names seven. The prayer chapter has its own list. Leaving one is not treated like leaving a sunnah — the wudu chapter says a missed obligation is made up, and prayers already prayed are repeated, while a missed sunnah is done without repeating the prayer.

An act the book lists under sunan.
In the worship chapters, a sunnah is an act placed under the sunan heading, after the obligations and before the virtues. The wudu chapter says that if you leave a sunnah you do it, and you do not repeat the prayer. The word is also used for the Prophet’s way. The forgetfulness chapter says a single missed sunnah has no prostration, except the pair of silent and aloud recitation.

Deliberate turning of the head in the prayer is another. The book does not put these in the lists of what is unlawful.
